G.D. Goenka School, Surat, Launches Awareness Campaign Against Diabetes in Children

Surat, July 17, 2025: Taking serious note of the rising risk of Type 2 diabetes among children, G.D. Goenka School, Surat, has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign. The primary objective of this initiative is to educate students on the serious health risks associated with the excessive consumption of sugar.

The prevalence of diabetes in children is increasing at an alarming rate in the country, with the primary cause being the excessive intake of sugary foods and beverages. To address this problem head-on, the school has installed a unique “Sugar Board” on its campus. This board provides students with crucial information about the quantity of sugar in their daily diet, highlights the sugar content in common junk foods and cold drinks, and guides them in making healthier choices. Through this information, students are made aware of the harmful effects of sugar consumption and are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Furthermore, the school has organized awareness seminars and workshops for students, teachers, and parents. In these sessions, detailed information was provided on the damage caused by high sugar intake, the symptoms of diabetes, and effective preventive measures.

During these programs, experts emphasized the critical importance of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and routine health check-ups. The initiative aims to empower children to make conscious, healthy food choices that yield long-term health benefits.

G.D. Goenka School believes that the health of its students is paramount. Through this campaign, the school is committed to contributing towards building a healthy, aware, and responsible society. We appeal to all parents and guardians to actively participate in this initiative and encourage their children to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
