Surat : The Shakespeare Society of Delhi Public School Surat was initiated in the year 2018 to acquaint the students with Shakespeare’s life and enable them to appreciate the beauty of his works. William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet, actor, inventor of words, master of drama, and undoubtedly the most famous writer of his time. He changed the face of the English language, inventing dozens of new words, which we still use today. It is important for the students to know about this great writer and his dramas as they depict human emotions and we can still relate to them more than four hundred years after he wrote them. What better way to learn about Shakespeare than by enacting his plays?

The Grade IX students of Delhi Public School Surat have mesmerized the audience with their stellar performances in ‘The Merchant of Venice’ in 2018 and ‘King Lear’ in 2019. Continuing the tradition of honouring Shakespeare, this year the students enacted his famous play ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ at Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium on Thursday, 30 January 2020 at 9:30 a.m. The play is about Macbeth, an ambitious general, who wanted to become the king of Scotland and how his scheming wife Lady Macbeth helps him to do so. It showcases the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. The characters came alive on stage through the fantastic make-up, wonderful costumes, stage props and amazing acting by the budding actors.
