Surat, July 2025: In a remarkable initiative to connect classroom learning with real-world industry exposure, White Lotus International School organised an insightful educational visit to the Diamond Institute for students of Grades V to XII. The trip offered students a rare opportunity to witness the journey of a diamond — from a rough stone to a polished gem — right in the heart of Surat, the diamond capital of the world.
As the students entered the institute, excitement and curiosity sparkled in their eyes — much like the gems they would soon explore. The visit began with an informative session conducted by industry experts, who introduced students to the fundamentals of gemology, including the 4Cs of diamonds — Cut, Clarity, Colour, and Carat. From there, the students were taken on a guided tour through the various departments where they observed each stage of diamond processing.
From precision cutting machines to skilled artisans carefully polishing each facet, the students got an in-depth look at how technology and craftsmanship work hand in hand to transform raw stones into dazzling diamonds. They also learned about quality grading, valuation, and export procedures, offering insights into the economic significance and global reach of the diamond industry.
The visit was not just educational but also inspirational. Many students expressed their fascination with the intricacies of the industry and shared a newfound respect for the artistry and dedication it involves. The experience opened their minds to exciting career possibilities in gemology, design, quality control, and international business.
Principal Mrs. Purvika Solanki, who strongly advocates experiential learning, expressed her pride in the students’ engagement during the visit.
“Education is most powerful when it goes beyond textbooks. This visit allowed our students to see how science, math, art, and business come together in a single industry. It reinforced our belief that when students are given real-world exposure, they not only learn better — they dream bigger.”
The field trip concluded with an interactive Q&A session where students eagerly asked questions, ranging from the formation of natural diamonds to the future of lab-grown stones and ethical sourcing practices. Faculty members accompanying the students applauded their curiosity, noting how such trips ignite critical thinking and broaden their horizons.
For the Asterians of WLIS, this visit was more than a school outing — it was a sparkling moment of realization that knowledge truly shines when connected to purpose. As they returned with shining eyes and brighter minds, the message was clear:
At White Lotus International School, every learning experience is designed to educate, elevate, and empower
